Crunchyroll Grabbed Six Anime at AnimagiC, and Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 Is the Real Headline

Convention licensing panels are usually where you find out which mid-tier isekai you will be politely ignoring in three months. Crunchyroll's AnimagiC 2026 panel in Germany on August 1 was not that. It was six titles, one of them a season three for a show with a genuinely fanatical audience, and one of them a webtoon adaptation people have been asking about since 2019.

Here is the full list, and then the part that actually matters.

The October 2026 four

Four of the six premiere this October, which slots them into a fall season that was already crowded.

FX Fighter Kurumi-chan got a key visual, an October start, and new cast details on the same day, which suggests the marketing push is already underway rather than being announced cold. Crunchyroll's territory grab here is the widest of the batch: North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India.

The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World II is the sequel nobody had on their card. The first season aired in early 2023, got a rough critical reception, and then quietly did well enough on watch numbers to justify a second run three years later. That gap is the story. A season two arriving after a three-year silence almost always means the streaming data said something the reviews did not. Territory covers North America through CIS, excluding India.

The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life is exactly the show its title promises, and there is no shame in that. Comfort isekai is load-bearing for the entire simulcast economy. North America through CIS.

Uncle's Obsession with Cute Things rounds out the fall batch with the widest territory spread alongside Kurumi-chan, including the Indian subcontinent.

Shangri-La Frontier Season 3, January 2027

This is the one.

Shangri-La Frontier has spent two seasons quietly becoming the best-executed game anime running. Not the most popular, and it is worth being precise about that, because Solo Leveling eats most of the oxygen in this genre. But Shangri-La Frontier is doing something structurally harder. Its whole premise is a protagonist who plays garbage games for fun, which gives the show license to be genuinely playful about game design in a way that power-fantasy adaptations cannot afford to be.

Season 2 wrapped with the story positioned for its biggest escalation yet, and a January 2027 slot means C2C is getting a full development runway rather than a rushed turnaround. That is a good sign. The show's action direction has been its strongest asset and the thing most likely to suffer if a season gets compressed.

The territory is North America through CIS, which is the standard Crunchyroll footprint for a title where they hold continuity from previous seasons.

Eleceed, early 2027

Eleceed is the announcement that will get the loudest reaction, and it deserves it.

Son Jeho and ZeroSeven's webtoon has been running on Naver since 2018 and has one of the most consistently strong action reputations in the medium, built on a premise that sounds ridiculous and works completely: a kind-hearted kid, a legendary awakened master trapped in the body of a cat, and a fight-scene grammar that translates the vertical-scroll format into something with real momentum.

Crunchyroll's rights here are worldwide excluding Japan and China, which is the broadest deal in the batch and reads as a statement of intent. A worldwide-minus-two license on a Korean property is Crunchyroll planting a flag in the manhwa adaptation race, which has become the most contested territory in anime licensing over the last two years.

The open question is who animates it. That was not announced, and for a property whose entire appeal is action choreography, the studio answer will matter more than the release window.

The territory splits are the tell

Read past the titles and the geography is doing something interesting.

Three of these six deals exclude India. Two include the Indian subcontinent explicitly. One is worldwide minus Japan and China. That is not sloppiness, that is Crunchyroll buying rights piecemeal in a market where local players and Netflix have been aggressive, and where the pricing on individual territories has gotten competitive enough that a licensor will not just hand over a global bundle anymore.

Two years ago a Crunchyroll announcement meant "everywhere that is not Asia." That default is gone. The company is now assembling territory lists title by title, which costs more in negotiation overhead and tells you the seller has options.

It also means the frustrating fan experience of a show being available three countries over and not in yours is going to get worse before it gets better. Crunchyroll picking up six titles is good news. Six titles with four different territory maps is a symptom.

What it says about fall 2026

Crunchyroll had already confirmed Romelia War Chronicle for 2026 earlier that week, so this panel takes the fall slate from crowded to genuinely full. That is on top of a season already carrying Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the Psyren adaptation, Suikoden, and Overgeared.

The strategic read is that Crunchyroll is defending volume. Netflix passed it on raw usage in most major markets this year, and the counter-move available to a dedicated anime service is not to win on reach, which is unwinnable, but to be the only place where the full breadth of a season exists. Six more simulcasts is that argument made in inventory.

Whether it works depends on whether any of these become the thing people talk about. Shangri-La Frontier has the best shot at that, and Eleceed has the best ceiling.
